Arnprior Rotary Day

      May 23, 2018

Rotary Day

The Rotary Club of Arnprior received its inaugural charter on May 23, 1987. To mark the 31st anniversary of the Club, the Arnprior Town Council will proclaim Rotary Day in Arnprior on this date and the Rotary flag will be flown at Town Hall.

The flag raising ceremony will be attended by Mayor David Reid and Rotary members including Club founding member Rev. Leo Hughes.

Tree Planting Ceremony

Rotary “recognizes our responsibility not only to the people on our planet, but to the planet itself” (Rotary International President, Ian Risley).

To this end and to assist the community of Arnprior in its extraordinary downtown re-development and beautification efforts, the Rotary Club of Arnprior will purchase and plant a flowering crab tree in the plaza next to and owned by the Gallery Gift Shop.  Milliken Landscaping and Garden Centre will prepare the planting site at their expense.

Invited tree planting “assistants” will include members of Council, owners of the Gallery Gift Shop and new members of the Rotary Club of Arnprior.

Rotary Club of Arnprior Donation of Equipment Item (Patient Lift with Scale) for Arnprior Redevelopment Project

The redevelopment of the Arnprior Grove will add a much-needed 36 beds to the 60-bed nursing home facility and will provide a central location for the delivery of expanded seniors’ wellness programs in the community.  The community must raise $5 million (including $1 million for vitally needed new equipment) towards the $24-$27 million project, the balance coming from the province.  The average number of seniors’ beds in the community has long been below the provincial average, forcing seniors in need to leave the community for care – resulting in family disruptions, nursing home residents living in unfamiliar circumstances and additional and often unsafe travel for the visitors of residents.  Because of these obstacles, many seniors in need have remained in the community, either without receiving needed care or staying in and overtaxing long-term care facilities in the hospital.

By coming forward as an early contributor to the community fund raising campaign for new and very much needed equipment for the Grove redevelopment, the Rotary Club of Arnprior hopes to rally others in helping to serve seniors in need. The Rotary Club of Arnprior has responded positively to students at Arnprior District High School in helping them in their efforts to support the Grove redevelopment.

The item to be purchased is a “Maxi Move Lift with Scale” to move residents efficiently and safely while providing care. The equipment purchase will have a direct impact on the ability to furnish health care services to Grove residents and the quality of the services.  The item will cost $7300.

Representatives of Arnprior Regional Health and the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation will participate in this announcement.

Winning Ticket Draw for Rotary Day Prize, ArnpriorRotary Club Cash Calendar

While having made and sold many calendars in the community over the years, the Rotary Club of Arnpriorredefined this fundraiser by changing it to a successful cash calendar for 2018.  Ads were sold in the calendar to promote local businesses.  Monthly prizes and other special draws have been held including one on Rotary Day, May 23, 2018.

Dave Pelkey , owner of The Village Crate and an advertiser in the 2018 cash calendar, will draw the winning ticket at the Rotary Day event and a phone call will be made immediately to the winner.

Mad Duck Race Tickets

Rotarians will be selling Mad Duck Race tickets ($5) during the event. This is a long-standing and signature Rotary fundraiser in the community.  Each ticket number corresponds to a numbered rubber duck that will be dropped into the Madawaska River from the Madawaska Blvd bridge on July 1st. The first two ducks crossing the finish line will win a prize for their ticket owners.

This is very much a fun event for the public and Rotarians and reflects the fundamental attitude of Rotarians to nurture fun and fellowship amongst ourselves and our many partners and benefactors.
